Fencing dates back as early as the 15th century. The
French fencing masters were the first to classify and define
attacks and parries with the first treatise on fencing being
published in 1573 by Henry de St. Didier. During this time
fencing was not held as the enjoyable safe sport it is today
but one of survival.
Fast forward in time to 1860, when Fencing first came to the
U.S by immigrant French and Italian fencing masters. By this
time fencing had begun to lose its harmful roots and began to
be considered a non-harmful sport. As dueling was outlawed
fencing developed more and more into the sport it is today
while all the while never losing the beauty, grace and chivalry
that has captivated the hearts of many.
